| November 15 Protest Against Prop 8 |
As many of you are already aware, the voters of California last Tuesday approved Proposition 8, an amendment to the state constitution that eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry. Similar same-sex marriage bans were approved by voters in Florida and Arizona. And in Arkansas, a particularly horrible ballot initiative was passed that prevents gay couples from adopting or becoming foster parents.
Prop 8 may have made headlines over the last week, but this is an issue that goes far beyond California. The struggle for equal rights transcends all state borders. When injustice is committed against some of us, it impacts us all. And it is up to us to stand together and speak out. We have allowed ourselves to be bullied and targeted for far too long.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, simultaneous protests against Prop 8 and other pieces of homophobic legislation will take place in dozens of American cities.
For more information about the protests or to organize a rally in your area, visit www.jointheimpact.com.
The Chicago rally will be held downtown at Federal Plaza (Dearborn and Adams) at 12:30 p.m. For more information on the Chicago protest, visit www.gayliberation.net
