| July 1 Seeking Participants--GLBT Media Research Project |
If you are a media junkie, and are regularly tuned into GLBTQ media (TV, music, movies, internet, etc…) and
enjoy talking about media issues, I would like to hear from you! If you are interested in participating, please
contact me. I am a graduate student in Sociology at Loyola University Chicago. I would like to invite you to participate in a research project I am conducting as part of the requirements
towards my PhD. As a lesbian woman, and avid T.V. watcher and music listener, I am interested in exploring the relationship between gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered media representations and social change. I am looking for folks willing to talk with me about GLBTQ representations in the media and how they affect our lives. I am looking for people who are willing to do both focus groups and follow-up individual interviews, however, arrangements can be made for one or the other. In addition, for those who prefer, interviews can be done via email exchanges (no in-person required). All participation is confidential; informed consent is required for in person interviews and focus groups. In person interviews and focus groups will each last approximately 1-2 hours. Thank you,
Monica Edwards monica@cledwards.net |

| July 13 BRUNCH WITH BARBARA AND DONNA |
Gerber/Hart Library
1127 West Granville Avenue
Chicago, IL 60660
You are cordially invited to join us on Sunday, July 13 at 11:00 AM for a reception honoring Barbara Grier and Donna McBride, co-founders of Naiad Press. We'll start with an expanded continental breakfast at 11:00 AM, followed by remarks by Ms. Grier and Ms. McBride. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling Gerber/Hart at 773-381-8030, by sending an email to info@gerberhart.org, or by stopping by during open hours. The suggested donation for the event is $5.00 to $10.00.
Ms. Grier and Ms. McBride founded Naiad Press in January 1973, and nurtured it into the largest lesbian press in the world. In 2003, instead of selling Naiad Press, they transferred all assets to a new company, Bella Books. The couple has been together since 1972, and are enjoying retirement in Florida. Their rare Chicago appearance is an opportunity for you to meet and greet these lesbian publishing legends. It's time to retrieve your copy of "Lesbian Nuns," Naiad's all-time non-fiction best seller, or classics by Jane Rule, Isabel Miller and Katherine V. Forrest. Gerber/Hart's shelves are well stocked with Naiad Press titles, and our lesbian book discussion group has discussed many Naiad works in its twenty-one year history. Feel free to come in and check out a few Naiad Press books before the big event!

| July 26 The Joans at Elbo Room |
| THE JOANS, the only rock band dedicated to giving Joan Crawford the rock and roll voice she DESERVES, will be performing a live set at The Elbo Room (2871 N. Lincoln Ave) on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10:30pm. Tickets are $10 and available at www.elboroomchicago.com.
“This is brilliant”, says Jeff Johnson, Entertainment Chair, Folsom Street Fair
The Joans don’t like to blend in with the crowd. The moment you get your first glimpse of The Joans, you know that this time, it’s going to be different. The Joans wouldn’t be caught dead in ripped jeans and a tee-shirt. The Joans don’t mind if you stare at them, as long as you start to dance as well. The Joans want to be the life of the party because they understand that when people go out to a club to hear a band they want more than music. The Joans entertain.
The mission of The Joans is simple; give legendary Hollywood star, Joan Crawford, the rock and roll voice she deserves. The spirit of Joan Crawford is so overwhelmingly powerful it takes the bodies of one man and one woman to contain it. The Joans want to make others aware of the groundbreaking over the top persona that was and is Joan Crawford by embodying her unique spirit through a musical recipe of one part new wave pop, a dash of garage rock, a generous helping of camp, and a pinch of theatrics topped off with original songs. Served hot, it pleases any crowd hungry for something out of the ordinary.

| July 26 Frontrunners/ Frontwalkers |
| FrontRunners/ FrontWalkers Chicago is a club for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transexuals and friends who are interested in running and walking together along Chicago's great open lakefront. We meet twice weekly, on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. and Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. We always start from the Totem Pole in Lincoln Park. After each run/walk we eat together at a nearby, modestly priced restaurant. On the second Saturday of each month there is a women's brunch following the run/walk. |
