If you are interested in participating, please contact me. I am a graduate student in Sociology at Loyola University Chicago. I would like to invite you to participate in a research project I am conducting as part of the requirements towards my PhD. As a lesbian woman, and avid T.V. watcher and music listener, I am interested in exploring the relationship between gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered media representations and social change. I am looking for folks willing to talk with me about GLBTQ representations in the media and how they affect our lives. I am looking for people who are willing to do both focus groups and follow-up individual interviews, however, arrangements can be made for one or the other. In addition, for those who prefer, interviews can be done via email exchanges (no in-person required). All participation is confidential; informed consent is required for in person interviews and focus groups. In person interviews and focus groups will each last approximately 1-2 hours. If you self identify as bisexual, are at least 25 years old and are a woman, you may be eligible to participate. You will be asked to complete a brief survey about yourself and your health, including questions about health insurance, substance use and experiences of discrimination. In addition, some women will be randomly selected to participate in a more in-depth interview. Participation will take between 20 to 90 minutes. All participants will be compensated for their time with a $10 gift card to major retail establishment.
